| Oregon School Boards Association, League of Oregon Cities and Association of Oregon Counties joined together in 1972 to build the original Local Government Center (LGC) building in Salem for $250,000. The center symbolized intergovernmental cooperation and provided easy access to the Capitol. The original structure was expanded in 1977 and again in 1984 to deal with space needs and future growth. With all three associations continuing to grow, the original building became increasingly overcrowded. In September 1995, construction began on a new local government center on the back parking lot. One year later, a new home for the three local government associations was completed and opened for business. The new 4-story, 40,500 square foot building features include low maintenance brick/block construction and low energy lighting. The first floor houses three conference rooms, a lunchroom/kitchen, a printshop and three tenants. LOC and AOC occupy the second floor. The third floor is occupied by tenants with approximately 4,000 square feet remaining to be leased on that floor. OSBA has its offices on the fourth floor. The leased areas of the building will provide future expansion opportunities for the owners of the building. |
